FAQ

What is Stacks?
+

Stacks is an open-source network of decentralized apps and smart contracts built on Bitcoin. Stacks unleashes Bitcoin's full potential as a programmable base layer. They run their logic on the blockchain with smart contracts, are controlled by code instead of companies, and are accessible to anyone.

Earn Bitcoin by Stacking

Lock your STX temporarily to support the network’s security and consensus. As a reward, you’ll earn Bitcoin that miners transfer as part of Proof of Transfer.

Reimagine our financial system on Bitcoin

Stacks makes Bitcoin's $760B of capital programmable with smart contracts. Build a better financial system on top of Bitcoin that’s open, composable, and without intermediaries.

Clarity, for safer smart contracts

Run your app’s logic on the blockchain with Clarity smart contracts. Clarity is a more secure and predictable language that prevents many bugs and exploits. Perfect for high-stakes code where bugs are not an option.

How can I start Stacking?
+

There are two ways to stack: by yourself or in a pool. To stack by yourself you’ll need to meet the dynamic minimum, which can change from cycle to cycle. If you don’t meet the minimum, you can still stack by pooling with others.

Read the stacking guide to choose a strategy that's right for you.

If I don't meet the minimum, can I stack?
+

Even if you don't meet the minimum, you can still stack and earn Bitcoin by pooling with others. A service will pool STX together and distribute rewards back to the participants.
